Get ready for Samsung’s upcoming augmented reality glasses. While smart glasses aren’t a new concept, devices like the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses have shown that they can work well and look stylish. As technology advances and becomes more affordable, we’re likely to see more models in the near future, including a pair from Samsung. Though Samsung hasn’t officially unveiled its smart glasses yet, industry insiders suggest they could debut as early as 2025. Here’s what we know so far about the wearable device.
What Samsung has confirmed
Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the launch of smart glasses, but the company has revealed it is working on XR (Extended Reality) products, which include virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). At the February 2023 Samsung Unpacked event, Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm announced a collaboration on XR hardware, although details were sparse at the time. In July 2024, Samsung provided further insight into its XR platform, and in September, Qualcomm’s CEO confirmed that Samsung’s smart glasses are indeed in the works. These glasses will reportedly be connected to a smartphone and offer “entirely new experiences,” with AI playing a key role. They are expected to differ from the Apple Vision Pro but will be similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses. However, we still don’t have a release date, detailed specs, or pricing information (for reference, Ray-Ban Meta Glasses start at $300).
What the rumors say
Although official details are scarce, several rumors have emerged. A South Korean outlet suggests that Samsung will reveal its smart glasses in January 2025, possibly alongside the Galaxy S25 phones, with a full release in the third quarter of 2025 (around July to September). Insider sources indicate that the glasses will weigh around 50 grams and include features such as gesture control, contactless payments, and AI-powered facial recognition, though specifics on the functionality remain unclear.
Previous reports have compared the Samsung glasses to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses and mentioned a Qualcomm AR1 processor and a 12MP camera with a Sony image sensor. Additionally, Samsung has trademarked the name “Samsung Glasses” and filed a patent this year for a device that can navigate physical spaces and display information in front of the user’s eyes.
While the official details are still under wraps, the collaboration with Qualcomm and Samsung’s ongoing work on AR glasses suggest that smart glasses are on the horizon. Rumors point to a potential unveiling in January, though it could be a while before they’re available for purchase. Existing AR glasses like the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses and Xreal One Pro give us a glimpse of what Samsung’s smart glasses might offer.
