Elevation Lab’s new TimeCapsule is a protective case for Apple’s AirTag that transforms it into a waterproof, dustproof tracker with a ten-year battery life. Priced at $19.99 for one, or $29.99 for a pair, it’s also available as a discounted four-pack for $39.99.

The TimeCapsule replaces the AirTag’s standard CR2032 coin cell battery with an electrical contact and slots for two AA batteries. Made from “fiber-reinforced polycarbonate,” it doesn’t interfere with Bluetooth or UWB signals, ensuring strong connectivity. The case has an IP69 rating, providing top-tier protection against water, dust, and dirt, making it ideal for rugged environments.

However, there are some trade-offs. The TimeCapsule weighs 3.5 ounces with the batteries, significantly more than the AirTag’s 0.39 ounces. It also reduces the volume of the AirTag’s sound by about a third, which may make it harder to locate by ear. Still, for those who don’t want to replace their AirTag’s battery annually, this seems a minor compromise.

For optimal battery performance, Elevation Lab recommends using Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAs to avoid issues with leaks or corrosion that can occur with alkaline batteries. Nickel–metal hydride batteries can also be used, though they won’t last as long before needing a recharge.
