Apple has integrated ChatGPT with Siri in the latest iOS 18.2 update, allowing iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to ask Siri questions that ChatGPT can help answer. Unlike the previous standalone version of ChatGPT, this update lets Siri use the AI chatbot, but you don’t need a paid ChatGPT account to access the feature. To use it, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, or a device from the iPhone 16 lineup, though other iPhone models will still benefit from new features such as updates to the Mail and Find My apps.
To install the update, go to Settings > General > Software Update, tap Update Now, and follow the instructions. To use ChatGPT through Siri, you’ll need to join the Apple Intelligence waitlist by navigating to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and tapping Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist. Approval may take a few hours. Note that this feature is not available on the standard iPhone 15 but will work on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
Once integrated, Siri will highlight a glowing light on your screen if it determines that ChatGPT can assist with your question. It will then ask for your permission to access ChatGPT for more detailed responses. According to Apple, the new Siri integration offers more natural communication, leveraging ChatGPT’s ability to understand context and access information across apps to provide more helpful responses.
The update also brings new features such as Genmoji and Visual Intelligence, as well as improvements to Mail, Safari, and Photos, alongside various bug fixes and security updates. These features are available in the UK as well.
