Voice control for the next Magic Mouse “seems logical.”

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a version of the Magic Mouse with voice control powered by AI would “make sense,” although he has not heard any rumors about such a feature yet. This follows a report from Korean leaker “yeux1222,” who suggested that Apple has created a prototype Magic Mouse that combines touch, voice controls, and hand gestures. Gurman shared on social media that voice control is a logical addition in light of AI, but he also stated that the rumor is likely the result of an “incorrect back-and-forth translation” from an earlier report he shared in December about the future of the Magic Mouse.

While it’s unclear whether the rumor stems from Gurman’s initial report, he clarified that Apple is focusing on a more ergonomic design and some unspecified gestures for the refreshed Magic Mouse. If voice control is included, it could integrate with Apple Intelligence, allowing users to summon Siri or issue specific commands. However, Gurman notes that while such functionality might not have an immediate use, it could be more relevant in five to ten years.

The potential inclusion of voice control might also be a way for Apple to future-proof the Magic Mouse, given its long update cycle. The device has seen few significant updates since the Magic Mouse 2 in 2019, with only new colors and a switch from Lightning to USB-C ports. Earlier this month, Gurman mentioned that Apple plans a “full overhaul” of the Magic Mouse with a more modern design, including relocating the charging port to a more accessible location, but he did not mention voice control or gesture features at the time. Both Gurman and yeux1222’s reports suggest the Magic Mouse could be released in 2026, possibly alongside an OLED MacBook Pro, which is also rumored for that year.
