Threads Launches ‘Use Media’ Feature for Easy Resharing of Photos and Videos
Threads is rolling out a new way to reshare photos and videos. Instead of quote-posting the original content with added commentary, users can now click a new option called “Use media” to reshare the image or video directly in a new post, where they can add their own text. The original poster will still be credited.
‘USE MEDIA’ Feature:
Instagram head Adam Mosseri introduced the feature on Wednesday via a post on Threads, describing it as a “quick, easy way to add your creative takes to trending images.” The attribution to the original creator will appear at the top left of the media.
To use the “Use media” option, long-press any media in Threads or tap the repost button. It will appear as a new option in the pop-up menu, alongside “Repost” and “Quote.” The feature is rolling out to users, and Mosseri encouraged feedback.
However, not all users have embraced the update. Some creators expressed concerns over having their images reshared without their consent, fearing it could lead to others benefiting from their work without contributing. In response, Threads clarified that users can turn off media reuse in the app’s settings and control who can reshare their media using the quote-post options.
