Nvidia officially unveiled its new RTX Blackwell family of GPUs during its CES 2025 keynote, with the RTX 5090 as the star of the lineup. Boasting 92 billion transistors, 4,000 AT TOPS, 380 ray-tracing TFLOPS, and 1.8 TB/s bandwidth, the RTX 5090 builds on the design of its predecessor while delivering cutting-edge performance.
During the keynote, Nvidia showcased real-time demos highlighting the 5090’s capabilities, featuring intricate textures, detailed graphics, and full ray tracing. According to Nvidia, the RTX 5090 outperforms its predecessor, the RTX 4090, by up to 2x. This premium GPU comes with a price tag of $2,000.
Other GPUs in the series include the RTX 8050 ($999), RTX 5070 Ti ($749), and RTX 5070 ($549). Notably, laptops equipped with the RTX 5070 will cost significantly less than a standalone RTX 5090, making them a more budget-friendly option.
The RTX 50 series introduces several advancements in AI-driven rendering, including neural shaders, digital human technologies, and enhancements in geometry and lighting. High-end laptops featuring the RTX 5090 will start at just under $3,000, with availability for RTX 5090, 5080, and 5070 Ti models beginning in March, followed by RTX 5070 laptops in April. Major brands like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Razer will offer notebooks powered by the new GPUs.
