INSTAGRAM NEW PROFILE GRID:
Instagram is making a significant change to its profile grids by displaying content as rectangles instead of squares, a shift that will roll out “over the weekend,” according to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri. In a recent Instagram Story, Mosseri acknowledged that while many users appreciate the classic square format, the majority of content uploaded to the platform is now vertical, including both photos and videos.
SQUARE TO RECTANGLE GRID:
He explained that it can be frustrating to overly crop vertical content to fit the square grid, and this update will allow photos and videos to be displayed more naturally without sacrificing any of the original content.
Mosseri admitted that the transition might be “a bit of a pain” for some users, but he believes it will be a “transitional” discomfort that will ultimately enhance the user experience.
The new grid format will allow for more of your photos and videos to be visible as intended, rather than being aggressively cropped, offering a more accurate and visually appealing presentation of your content.
Additionally, Instagram revealed a new feature in the Reels feed that will let users view videos that their friends have liked, further enhancing social interaction on the platform. This change, along with the updated profile grid, is part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to improve user experience and accommodate the evolving ways users share and consume content on the app.
