Spotify’s Educational Courses May Be Coming to the US

SPOTIFY EDUCATION:

Spotify is expanding its platform to include educational courses alongside its traditional music, podcasts, and audiobooks.

Announced on Tuesday, the new feature—currently being piloted in the U.K.—allows users to explore topics in areas like business, tech, lifestyle, and music.

While the feature is still in testing, there are signs it could soon be available in the U.S. Tech enthusiast Chris Messina discovered the U.S. development through early access, revealing that the platform will offer courses on subjects like AI, web3, the metaverse, and other digital tools. He also noted that users will be able to filter their Spotify Library to show “Podcasts & Courses” rather than just “Podcasts.”

Although Spotify has not officially confirmed U.S. availability, Messina’s findings suggest the feature is in the works. By diversifying its offerings, Spotify aims to grow its revenue through various monetization methods, including ads in audio and video podcasts, and paid audiobook subscriptions. Courses could provide an additional revenue stream, with Spotify potentially charging for premium educational content.

Some courses available in the U.K. include:

  • Self-Care Through Creativity with Sara Beth Morgan
  • Delicious Vegetarian Cooking with Marco Pierre White
  • Communication Fundamentals at Work with Jessica Chen
  • Plants at Home: Uplift Your Spirit & Your Space with Christopher Griffin.
