Truecaller Introduces Real-Time Caller ID for iPhone Users

Truecaller has long provided real-time caller ID for Android users but left iPhone users without this feature—until now. The company has announced an update bringing real-time caller ID support to iOS, thanks to Apple’s introduction of Live Caller ID Lookup in iOS 18. This allows third-party apps like Truecaller to securely access information about callers in real time.

The update marks Truecaller’s first major release since co-founders Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam stepped down from day-to-day operations in November 2024. Truecaller now has over 2.6 million paying subscribers, with iOS users accounting for around 750,000, but contributing 40% of its Premium revenue. The company has placed significant focus on its iOS app due to the platform’s importance to its revenue, particularly with a higher conversion rate to its premium tier and better overall revenue from iPhone users.

Previously, Truecaller had to rely on a limited offline database for iOS, but with iOS 18, the app can now fetch caller information in real time through a new encrypted server architecture. While there may be occasional delays due to the time-consuming encryption process, most real-time lookups are accurate, though some may still be missed.

Truecaller’s premium subscription on iOS starts at $9.99/month or $74.99/year, with family and Gold plans available. Users can enable the Live Caller ID feature through the iPhone settings under Call Blocking & Identification.

The latest update also improves the interface by displaying the caller’s name in bold and is working on adding images to caller IDs for iOS users in future releases.
