A New Era in Pregnancy Care: Innovations from Singapore

Singapore-based medical technology startup Biorithm is striving to transform maternity care using mobile technology and data science. The company aims to provide expectant mothers with more convenient access to information and care, regardless of their location. With the women’s health sector projected to reach a value of $1 trillion by 2027, Biorithm is part of the rapidly growing femtech industry that is drawing significant interest from investors.

While pregnancy and childbirth are now safer than ever—maternal deaths decreased by approximately 34% between 2000 and 2020, according to the World Health Organization—challenges remain. In 2020, a maternal death occurred nearly every two minutes, and around 6,500 newborns died daily.

Biorithm aims to address these issues through its innovative maternity care platform, Femom, which enables clinicians to provide care to mothers and babies anytime and anywhere.

“Women’s healthcare has seen little innovation for decades and often doesn’t meet the needs of modern women,” said Amrish Nair, Biorithm’s co-founder and chief technology officer, in an interview with CNBC Tech: The Edge. “Our goal is to deliver healthcare to mothers in a way that’s both convenient and effective.”

Founded by a team of doctors and engineers, Biorithm focuses on improving outcomes in pregnancy by enhancing access to care. “We are dedicated to ending preventable poor outcomes in pregnancy by developing remote monitoring technologies that bring the hospital into the home,” Nair explained.
