In a rare move following the TikTok ban, Apple has issued a statement and a support document detailing all the apps now inaccessible in the U.S. This is an uncommon step for the iPhone maker, which typically does not disclose information about app removals.
The list includes other apps from ByteDance, such as CapCut, Lemon8 — which gained popularity in recent months — and Marvel Snap. Below is the complete list of apps Apple has removed:
- TikTok
- TikTok Studio
- TikTok Shop Seller Center
- CapCut
- Lemon8
- Hypic
- Lark – Team Collaboration
- Lark – Rooms Display
- Lark Rooms Controller
- Gauth: AI Study Companion
- MARVEL SNAP
In its support document, Apple explained that the removals align with legal requirements:
“Apple is obligated to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates. Pursuant to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries — including TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8, and others — will no longer be available for download or updates on the App Store for users in the United States starting January 19, 2025,” the company stated.
The document also notes that visitors to the U.S. with App Store settings linked to non-U.S. regions will be unable to update the affected apps or make in-app purchases.
This ban stems from legislation passed last year requiring ByteDance to either sell TikTok or face a prohibition. Last week, the Supreme Court upheld the law, prompting Apple and Google to block the app on January 19. TikTok subsequently became inaccessible to U.S. users.
In a message to users attempting to access TikTok, the app stated: “We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!”
