Apple’s foldable iPad might resemble “two iPad Pros placed side-by-side.”

Apple is reportedly aiming to release an 18.8-inch foldable iPad with a “nearly invisible” crease by 2028, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter. Apple’s industrial design team has reportedly developed prototypes of this device, which would essentially feature “two iPad Pros side-by-side.”

Rumors of a foldable iPad have been circulating for years, with some speculating a smaller model could arrive in 2026 or 2027. Gurman’s report also recalls a 20-inch folding “iPad/MacBook hybrid” concept he shared in 2022. While it may not run macOS, he suggests the device will feature elements from both Macs and iPads, and by 2028, iPadOS could be advanced enough to support macOS apps. Given that Macs can already run iPhone and iPad apps, it’s not far-fetched to imagine a two-way compatibility system. This feature could make the higher price of an iPad twice the size of the current 13-inch iPad Pro more justifiable.

Gurman also mentions that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone, but he doesn’t expect it to debut before 2026 at the earliest. His sources also align with a leaked internal Apple display roadmap, which hints at the 18.8-inch foldable iPad, along with plans for OLED MacBook Pros in 2026 and an OLED MacBook Air update in 2027.
