Asus has unveiled the world’s first Thunderbolt 5 eGPU

Asus has introduced the world’s first Thunderbolt 5 eGPU, a powerful single-cable docking solution that offers an impressive array of features. This sleek, smoky black translucent box is not just a gaming PC, but one of the most powerful portable docking stations ever created. When connected to your laptop or handheld, the new 2025 Asus XG Mobile delivers the performance of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5090 mobile chip, provides up to 140 watts of power, supports dual monitors, includes a USB and SD card reader hub, and offers 5Gbps ethernet—all through a single cable.

The 2025 XG Mobile’s ports — and a standard AC power connector, because the power supply lives inside.

It is the first Thunderbolt 5 external graphics card and one of the first Thunderbolt 5 docks, utilizing the new 80Gbps bidirectional link to deliver unprecedented functionality. The XG Mobile is also the first portable eGPU with an Nvidia graphics chip, building on the previous-gen XG Mobile, which required a proprietary port for Asus devices. Unlike those older docks, this model supports the new Thunderbolt 5 standard for up to 64Gbps of bandwidth, offering more capabilities than previous USB4 or Oculink docks.

Note that it comes with a little vertical stand, too.

While it may not be the most powerful eGPU on the market (as larger docks with desktop GPUs offer greater power), Asus’ compact design offers impressive performance in a package weighing under 2.2 pounds. The XG Mobile also features a 350W power supply with no external brick, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1 for video output, and 10Gbps USB-A ports. Expect to pay $2,199.99 for the version with an RTX 5090 mobile chip, with a lower-end model featuring the RTX 5070 Ti priced at $1,199.99. This Thunderbolt 5 eGPU will work with Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 laptops, though you’ll need a Thunderbolt 5 device to unlock the full potential of the GPU.
