Openvibe, an app that integrates multiple open social networks like Bluesky, Mastodon, Nostr, and Threads, has secured $800,000 in investment to boost its development. The round was led by Czech Founders VC, with backing from Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com and Tumblr, as well as Tensor Ventures. Former Mews CTO Jan Široký also invested separately.
Launched in 2024, Openvibe initially supported major open social networks using different protocols, such as ActivityPub for Mastodon, AT Protocol for Bluesky, and Nostr for third-party apps. The app later added Instagram Threads, which became integrated with ActivityPub. CEO Matej Svancer created Openvibe to offer a user-friendly gateway to the open social web, simplifying the experience of managing multiple platforms and protocols.
In addition to a combined timeline to keep users connected, Openvibe also allows cross-posting across networks. With the new funding, Svancer plans to speed up development, grow the user base, improve the UI, and integrate with more social platforms. Automattic’s investment is particularly significant, given its history of supporting open-source projects competing with Big Tech.
Openvibe plans to refine its user interface, integrate with more platforms, and introduce a subscription model for future revenue. The app is currently available for free on iOS and Android.
