Bluesky and X Introduce Video Feeds Amid TikTok Uncertainty

As TikTok faces uncertainty about its future in the US, platforms like Bluesky, X, and others are capitalizing on the opportunity to expand their video offerings.

In recent hours, both Bluesky and X introduced new features to make it easier for users to find and enjoy vertical videos. Bluesky launched customizable video feeds, allowing users to swipe through video content and create personalized feeds based on specific hashtags, like the #BookSky feed, which mimics TikTok’s popular “BookTok” community.

We had to get in on the video action too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video!

Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customize.

Users can pin these video feeds to their profiles for easy access. “Bluesky is yours to customize,” the platform stated in its announcement. Additionally, Bluesky added a video feed under the search tab, showcasing trending videos. The swipeable, video-only timeline is available through custom feeds. Bluesky also highlighted developers working with the AT Protocol (the decentralized network powering Bluesky) to create alternative TikTok-like platforms, such as Tik.Blue, Skylight.Social, and Bluescreen.Blue, which are still in early stages.

Meanwhile, X launched a new “Video Tab” for users in the US, accessible through a circular play button in the app’s bottom navigation bar. This tab offers a personalized feed of recommended videos across categories like sports, entertainment, and news, reflecting the real-time nature of content on X.
