Bluesky now supports video uploads up to 3 minutes long.

Bluesky now allows users to upload videos up to three minutes long, expanding from its previous 60-second limit introduced in September. This update brings the decentralized social network closer in line with competitors like X (formerly Twitter) and Meta’s Threads. X allows non-paying users to upload videos up to two minutes and 20 seconds long, while Threads supports videos up to five minutes.

The longer video limit is a welcome change, especially for developers creating video-focused experiences for Bluesky. Apps like Bluescreen and Skylight aim to bring short-form video content to the platform, either through dedicated video-first Bluesky clients or entirely new apps built on Bluesky’s AT Protocol. With this update, these apps can better compete with TikTok, which allows videos up to 10 minutes long.

Bluesky has also introduced a new “Chat requests” feature, making it easier for users to manage messages from unknown senders. When users receive a DM request, they can now choose to accept or reject the conversation directly from a new requests screen.

Additionally, Bluesky has improved its moderation and user controls. Users can now mute accounts more easily by selecting the three-dot menu on a post and choosing the “Mute account” option. The platform has also enhanced its interface for tablets, providing better web layouts for larger screens.

Bluesky continues to refine its user experience with these updates, making the platform more competitive with established social networks. The expanded video capabilities, improved messaging system, and enhanced moderation tools signal Bluesky’s commitment to evolving alongside its users’ needs.
