Elon Musk’s X/Twitter Rolls Out Video Tab in US, Sparks Mixed Reactions

Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) has introduced a dedicated video tab in its app, now available in beta for US users. The feature, described as an “immersive new home for videos,” aims to enhance the platform’s multimedia offerings amid TikTok’s potential ban in the US. XCorp CEO Linda Yaccarino shared the news, delighting some users.

The feature provides an “immersive new home for videos,” aimed at expanding multimedia content on the app. While some see it as a potential rival to Instagram Reels and TikTok, others have questioned its originality, pointing out the trend of social media platforms mimicking each other.

The announcement has sparked a mix of excitement, humor, and skepticism online, with users jokingly suggesting names like “X Videos” and calling for additional features like video editing or a return to Vine’s format. For now, the video tab is exclusive to US users, with no confirmed timeline for a global rollout

While Musk previously stated the feature wasn’t intended to compete with Instagram, many online couldn’t help but note the growing similarity between social media platforms. Reactions ranged from excitement to skepticism, with some dubbing X a potential TikTok or Instagram Reels competitor. Others mocked the move, with quips like, “Who needs TikTok when you have Tix Tox?” and “Ain’t no one switching to ‘X Videos.’” Suggestions for improvements, including enhanced editing features and a return to Vine-like functionality, were also shared.

For now, the video tab remains a US-only feature, but it has sparked global discussion about its potential and originality in the increasingly homogenous social media landscape.
