Facebook, Instagram, and Threads have regained functionality following a major outage.

Meta’s apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, have recovered after experiencing a significant outage earlier on Wednesday. Around 1 PM ET, many users, including staff at The Verge, reported issues with apps like Facebook and Instagram either not loading or displaying outdated posts. However, Meta has now confirmed that the situation has largely been resolved.

During the height of the outage, Downdetector showed a sharp increase in reports for platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, indicating widespread disruptions. At its peak, the Instagram Downdetector page recorded over 66,000 reports, while Facebook saw more than 83,000.

Meta acknowledged the issue on X just before 2 PM ET and later updated users, stating that most problems had been resolved by 5:26 PM ET. “We’re 99% of the way there — just doing some last checks,” the company said. “We apologize to those who’ve been affected by the outage.”

By 6:02 PM ET, Instagram announced, “Andddd we’re back — sorry for the wait, and thanks for bearing with us.”

This outage follows a similar disruption in March that affected Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, as well as a major outage in October 2022 that impacted Instagram and Facebook.
