Gleamer expands into MRI with two acquisitions

Medical imaging encompasses various technologies, and Gleamer, a French AI startup, is expanding into MRI after developing AI tools for X-rays and mammographies. Instead of starting from scratch, the company has acquired Caerus Medical, an AI-powered MRI analysis startup, and is merging with Pixyl.

Gleamer is part of the second wave of AI-driven medical imaging startups. While early ventures in this space struggled, industry consolidation has gained momentum. Companies like Zebra Medical Vision and Arterys were acquired by Nanox and Tempus, respectively. Gleamer, founded in 2017, has steadily grown by focusing on AI-assisted radiology, offering tools that help radiologists enhance diagnostic accuracy.

Today, 2,000 institutions across 45 countries use Gleamer’s software, which has processed 35 million medical exams. The company has obtained CE and FDA certifications for its bone trauma interpretation tool and offers CE-certified solutions for chest X-rays, orthopedic evaluations, and bone age measurements in Europe.

According to CEO Christian Allouche, a one-size-fits-all AI approach for radiology doesn’t work. Instead, Gleamer has created specialized teams to focus on different imaging types. For example, the company recently launched its mammography product after 18 months of development. This AI model was trained on 1.5 million mammographies, demonstrating Gleamer’s commitment to data-driven accuracy.

With its expansion into MRI, Gleamer is further solidifying its role in AI-powered radiology. The growing demand for faster, more precise diagnostics makes AI a crucial tool in addressing radiologist shortages and improving patient care. By focusing on specialized imaging solutions and leveraging acquisitions, Gleamer is positioning itself at the forefront of medical AI innovation
