Google’s Gemini AI Smart Home Controls Now Available to All

Google is expanding its Gemini AI with smart home controls, now available to everyone. The new Google Home extension in the Gemini app adds several features, allowing you to control devices like lighting, thermostats, and speakers as long as they’re connected to your Google account.

Google Integrates Gemini AI for a Smarter Home Experience

First previewed last November, the extension lets you use natural language commands for smart home tasks, such as saying, “The sun is too bright in the living room” to close the blinds. Now, Gemini can also handle multiple requests at once, like “Turn on the armchair light and dim the kitchen lamp.” Additionally, you can ask Gemini about your devices’ status, such as whether the porch light is still on.

Other updates include the ability to control “non-sensitive” devices from your phone’s lock screen, adjust media volume, and control smart speakers, displays, and TVs within the Gemini app. The thermostat control now matches the design in the Google Home app. For security-related actions involving cameras and locks, Gemini will automatically open the Google Home app.

This update follows a broader Gemini enhancement, allowing more complex tasks across multiple apps. The Google Home extension is rolling out today and will be available over the next few weeks.
