Instagram Head Adam Mosseri Unveils New Video Editing App, Edits, to Compete with CapCut
Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, has revealed a new video editing app called Edits, designed to compete with CapCut, which went offline along with TikTok. The app is now available for preorder on the iOS App Store.
In a video posted to Instagram, Mosseri emphasized the company’s commitment to providing creators with the best tools, regardless of the current situation. He highlighted features like a live insights dashboard, detailed engagement metrics for followers and non-followers, and tools to track which parts of videos users skip.
Edits will also offer popular editing features such as green screens and video overlays, commonly seen in TikTok videos, according to the app’s description.
Responding to The Verge’s Chris Welch on Threads, Mosseri shared that Meta has been developing Edits “for months” and that it will differ from CapCut. He mentioned that Edits will offer a broader range of creative tools but will likely have a smaller target audience. While Mosseri did not directly address the uncertainty surrounding TikTok and ByteDance apps, the announcement signals a strategic move to position Edits as a key player in the evolving video editing landscape. The app will officially launch on March 13th, 2025.
