Apple revealed new adoption figures for iOS 18, showing that 68% of compatible iPhones are running the operating system, which was released in September 2024. For iPhones launched in the past four years, the adoption rate rises to 78%.
On all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 18 introduces Apple Intelligence, which draws on your personal context to give you intelligence that’s most helpful and relevant for you.
New look for app icons:
App icons and widgets appear even sleeker with a new Dark look. Tint them all with any colour or have iOS suggest a colour that complements your wallpaper. You can also make apps and widgets appear larger.
A big update to Control Centre:
The redesigned Control Centre features new groups of controls, which you can access more fluidly with a single, continuous swipe down on the Home Screen.
Among older devices, 19% are still on iOS 17, and 13% are using earlier versions. Notably, 19% of iPhones from the past four years are still on iOS 17, while just 5% of older devices are on previous iOS versions.
The figures are in line with previous adoption trends, similar to those seen with iOS 17 last year. iOS 18’s introduction of Apple Intelligence, a generative AI feature, was a key highlight. However, the feature faced some issues, including a rollback of News notification summaries. The latest public version of iOS 18 is 18.2.1.
In contrast, iPadOS 18 has lower adoption rates, with 53% of all iPads running the new version and 63% of iPads released in the past four years.
