Nvidia’s Next Step: Enabling Humanoid Robots with Power

Nvidia is increasingly focusing on robotics in 2025. Specifically, in the first half of the year, the chipmaking giant will launch a new line of compact computers for humanoid robots, named Jetson Thor, according to the Financial Times.

This move, which was anticipated, is part of Nvidia’s long-term, evolving strategy. Rather than competing directly with companies like Tesla, Nvidia aims to supply the “hundreds of thousands” of robot makers worldwide with a foundational OEM platform, as explained by Deepu Talla, Nvidia’s Vice President of Robotics, during a press conference in Tokyo last month.

Talla explains that this shift is driven by two technological breakthroughs: the rapid growth of generative AI models and the ability to train robots using simulated environments.

While Nvidia hasn’t explicitly stated this, it’s clear that the company’s push into AI-powered robots comes at a time when major customers, such as Amazon and Google, are working to reduce their reliance on Nvidia’s AI chips by developing their own.
