Samsung’s new TVs can search for recipes of dishes featured in TV shows

SAMSUNG:

Have you ever watched a food scene on TV and wished you could recreate the dish at home? Whether it was the timpano from Big Night or the beef bourguignon from Julie & Julia, Samsung’s new 2025 TVs might be just what you need to make those cravings a reality.

During its CES 2025 press conference in Las Vegas, Samsung unveiled a new feature called Samsung Food. This feature uses the company’s AI processor to recognize food items on your screen and provide recipes for them.

Samsung Food isn’t entirely new—Samsung acquired the food app Whisk in 2019 and rebranded it as Samsung Food in 2023. The mobile app offers tools like meal planning and AI-guided cooking steps, and even suggests recipes based on photos, though the premium version, which costs $7 a month, is required for that feature.

The Samsung Food experience on TVs is more limited, but it still offers some useful features. In addition to suggesting recipes based on food it recognizes, Samsung Food can track the progress of grocery or takeout deliveries made through the Samsung Food app.

FEATURES:

Samsung promotes the app’s ability to generate shopping lists from the contents of your fridge, calling it “the ultimate AI sous chef.”

While the idea of turning a screen full of food into a recipe is fascinating, it remains to be seen how well it actually works. Similar AI tools, like those from SideChef and ChatGPT, have had mixed results with recipes. And of course, AI can’t actually do the cooking for you. If you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy meal prepping or cooking, this feature might not be a game-changer. But if you’re eager to try baking a kouign amann from The Great British Bake Off, these TVs could be perfect for you.

Samsung Food will be available on the QN90F, QN80F, and QN70F models.
