Meta is enticing TikTok creators with cash incentives to join Instagram and Facebook, but its Threads app is now stepping up its offerings for creators, brands, and others who need more advanced tools to manage their presence. On Thursday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced several new features for Threads, including post scheduling and enhanced metrics within the Insights dashboard.
In a post on Threads, Mosseri revealed that users can now schedule posts and access more detailed metrics, such as views, follower growth, geographic demographics, interactions, and more, over a specific time period.
The scheduling feature can be accessed through the three-dot menu in the composer. Users simply tap “Schedule,” select the desired date and time, and then confirm by tapping “Schedule” again. Scheduled posts will be saved in the drafts folder, where they can be edited or deleted before posting.
Additionally, Mosseri mentioned a new “markup” feature for resharing posts, which allows users to add their own creative spin. Although he didn’t provide much detail or an example, tech expert Chris Messina previously noted that Threads might add a new icon next to the buttons for adding photos, GIFs, hashtags, and other media. The squiggle icon, when clicked, will take users to a screen where they can choose tools like a highlighter or arrow to draw directly on a post.
This new feature, spotted in action by Lindsey Gamble, allows users to mark up a post in a way that could be useful for annotating or adding personal notes. While there hasn’t been a significant consumer demand for such a tool, it does provide Threads with a distinctive feature compared to its competitors, like X, Bluesky, and Mastodon — and that may be its purpose.
