Threads May Introduce Music Integration for Posts Soon

Meta’s Threads is exploring the possibility of adding music to posts. Currently in the internal prototyping stage, this feature could allow users to enhance their posts with music, similar to what’s already available on Meta’s Instagram and Facebook platforms. While not yet available for public testing, the feature was initially discovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, known for uncovering unreleased developments in social apps.

The ability to add music to posts could appeal to users looking to personalize their content and express their musical preferences, evoking nostalgia for platforms like Myspace that popularized similar features. However, some users might find music on posts distracting, highlighting potential mixed reactions if the feature is rolled out.

As with any prototype, there’s no confirmed timeline or guarantee that this feature will launch. Meta appears to be strategically enhancing Threads to compete with platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky. Also recently reported that Threads is internally testing other updates, including the ability to set a display name and add a cover image to profiles. These additions aim to align Threads more closely with its competitors while improving user experience.

If implemented, music integration could serve as a differentiating factor for Threads in the crowded social media space, potentially attracting a broader audience seeking creative ways to share and engage. With Meta’s track record of feature cross-pollination across its apps, Threads could soon gain functionalities that make it more appealing to a diverse range of users.
