YouTube is testing a new floating “Play something” button, similar to Google’s “I’m feeling lucky” feature. As spotted by 9to5Google in the YouTube app for Android, this button appears just above the app’s bottom bar. When tapped, it selects a random video for you to watch.
Like previous versions of this feature, the button uses YouTube’s portrait-oriented Shorts player to display videos, whether they are vertical Shorts or regular YouTube content. Hopefully, this will be adjusted by the time the feature rolls out widely. Over the past year, YouTube has experimented with different versions of this feature, including a “Play Something” banner and a button resembling the black-and-white YouTube logo. The name “Play Something” may sound familiar, as Netflix retired a similar feature called “Surprise Me” last year, which had originally debuted in 2021 as “Play Something.”
